This award-winning film tells the story of Kenya's Green Belt Movement and its founder, Wangari Maathai, the first environmentalist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace prize. Her simple act of planting trees grew into a globally recognized movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration. Taking Root details how Maathai mobilized women to rally against deforestation, poverty, embedded economic interests and government corruption becoming a national political force that helped to bring down Kenya's 240-year dictatorship. The film captures a world view in which nothing is perceived as impossible.

George dwells on the past and cannot see his future as we follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim. George is consoled by his closest friend, Charley (Julianne Moore), a 48 year old beauty who is wrestling with her own questions about the future.

14 wins and 24 nominations world-wide, including a British Oscar for Colin Firth.
